Central Catholic vs. Winchester, Division 2 North semifinals

BURLINGTON — No. 10 Winchester ousted No. 15 Central Catholic 2-1 Monday in the Division 2 North quarterfinals on a goal off a corner kick a minute into overtime.

It was tied 1-1 at the half with the Raider goal by senior midfielder Tristan Hubbard on an assist from co-captain Nick Mroczko, a senior midfielder.  First-year Central coach Michael Bolduc praised junior goalie Justin Dansereau, who had 11 saves, and senior co-captain Will Inirio.  “Justin was phenomenal again,” said Bolduc, who is the Raiders’ third head coach in the last three years. “Will played a great game in the center of the field.”  Central finished up at 8-5-8 while the Sachems improved to 11-4-5.  The Raiders went 2-1 in the tourney, beating Northeast 4-1 in the prelims and stunning No. 2 Burlington, 1-0, in the first round behind Chris Cavanaugh’s goal and nine saves from Dansereau.  It was only Burlington’s (14-2-3) second loss of the fall.  It was a breakout year for CCHS, which was 4-8-4 in 2014 and won only two games in each of the previous three seasons for an overall record of 6-38-9.  Last tourney appearance: 2010 (5-6-8, lost in prelims)  Last winning season: 2009 (7-6-4, lost in prelims)  Last tourney win: 2007 (11-3-5, reached Division 2 North semifinals)
