Owls tune up

 

Timberlane tuned up for Wednesday's showdown against unbeaten Concord with an easy home quad-meet sweep of Nashua South, Windham and Hollis-Brookline. Freshmen Connor McGonagle and Casey Broadhurst were both 3-0 with three pins for the Owls (19-1) while Taylor Donovan was "Wrestler of the Meet" with two impressive pins at 106. Dylan Tremblay was 3-0 with two pins at 170.

Owls rip Lancers

 

Timberlane's wrestling team improved to 17-1 with an easy 58-9 victory over Londonderry. In three key matches for the Owls, freshman Casey Broadhurst beat Tyler Byrd at 132, Cody Lewis pinned Andrew Chase at 145 and Connor McGonagle blanked Ryan Cabezas 8-0 at 126. Mahdi Achab had a nice win for the Lancers at 170.

Danbury edges Owls

 

In a quad-meet at Danbury, Conn., Timberlane dropped its first meet of the year, to the host team, 30-23 while also whipping Nashoba Tech and Xavier. Danbury has now handed the only loss of the season to both Vermont power Mt. Anthony and Timberlane.

Owls' depth prevails, overcomes Newtown for title

 

PLAISTOW — Highly-regarded Newtown had more standouts Saturday at the Timberlane Invitational, but the host Owls boasted more depth.

As a result, Timberlane won its own invitational with 241 points with Newtown — despite crowning five champions — a distant second with 173. Timberlane had four champs but, more important, placed 13 wrestlers in the top four, seven more than Newtown.

Timberlane made it 121 straight wins on the mat in-state by swarming Exeter, 54-18. At 182 pounds, Jake Post took Wrestler of the meet honors, earning a 6-4 decision over Exeter two-sport captain and all-state placer, D.J. O'Donnell. Also strong for the Owls were Cody Lewis and Dylan Hughes.

Owls romp in quad

 

Unbeaten Timberlane (12-0) continued to make mincemeat of its New Hampshire opponents, routing Merrimack, Bishop Guertin and Bedford in a quad-meet, the first two via shutouts.  Jacob Post, Taylor Donovan, Cam Altobelli, Dylan Tremblay and Connor Mcgonagle all had 3 pins on the day.

Timberlane youngsters storm to Sanford crown

 

With a young team, Timberlane coach Barry Chooljian wasn't sure how his team would respond to a pressure situation.

On Saturday, Chooljian found out in a positive way as the Owls rallied with four straight wins in the finals of the Sanford (Maine) Spartan Invitational to edge Connecticut power Danbury, 232 1/2-229 for the team title.

Timberlane blitzed Salem 68-6. Owls sophomore Brandon Berube won an exciting battle with Lowell Holiday placer Dylan Chaffee, 3-2, to earn Wrestler of the Meet honors.
