Hornets move on

NORTH READING — The North Reading girls soccer team is headed back to Manning Field once again, as the Hornets shut out Tewksbury 2-0 in Sunday's Division 3 North quarterfinal matchup.

Rachel Hill scored both goals for North Reading, and Katerina Hassapis made six saves to record the shutout. North Reading (14-4-1) will now face top seeded Swampscott in the semifinal on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Methuen girls soccer qualified for the state tournament for the second year in a row with its 0-0 tie against Tewksbury. Megan Langlois made 12 saves to record her 10th shutout of the year.

Holding on

North Andover got six big saves from goalie Allie Rodrigues during the last three minutes of the game, and the Knights held on to beat Tewksbury 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Katherine McCann. Ane Eastwood and Kate Cheevers played well on defense for North Andover down the stretch.

Central more dangerous?

Central Catholic, the top-rated girls soccer team in the state, had no problem defeating Tewksbury 5-0. Five different Raiders had goals, including Elayna Grillakis who also had two assists. The Raiders are a dominant 10-0, and they just returned senior captain Nicole Wiggins on defense from a torn ACL she suffered last basketball season.
