North Andover's girls played Lowell tough but the host Red Raiders pulled away slightly in the fourth quarter to take a 62-50 victory in the Division 1 North first round. Emily Sifferlen had a strong 24-point performance in her final game for the Knights (11-10). Kelly Corrigan had 17 rebounds for North Andover.

Emily Sifferlen made her final MVC game a memorable one. The North Andover senior pumped in a career-high 28 points in a 64-39 win over Chelmsford. The Knights (11-9) will now get ready for the postseason.

Senior Emily Sifferlen hit a free throw in the final seconds to lift North Andover to a 44-43 victory over rival Andover, but did her best work on the defensive end. Sifferlen (17 points, 9 rebounds) held Andover's Gia Bramanti (8 points) to below her season average of 13.1.The Knights (10-9) qualified for the state tournament with the win.

Kelly Corrigan (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Emily Sifferlen (19 points) were the stars as North Andover cruised past Dracut, 64-36.

Emma Liporto led North Andover with a season-high 23 points in a 73-56 loss to Lowell. Julia Silk added 8 points and 11 rebounds. 

Haverhill's Jayla Kitchings had a huge day at the MSTCA Last Chance Meet, finishing first in the 55 hurdles, breaking her own school record and also jumping 17-2 for fifth  in the long jump to break Phong Nguyen’s 1996 school record of 16-10.

Katie Kirsch scored 17 points and Maura Smith added 15 points as Central Catholic edged North Andover 51-45.

Emily Sifferlen poured in 23 points with 11 rebounds and six steals to lead North Andover to a victory over MVC rival Haverhill. Christina Firek had 20 points on five 3's for the Hillies.

After a couple of tough losses, the North Andover girls basketball team got back on the right path with a win over Chelmsford. Emily Sifferlen had 20 points and five steals, Emma Liporto had 16 points and four assists and Julia Daigle had five points and 13 rebounds.

LAWRENCE - Caroline McDonald knows as well as anyone that this year's Andover team is vastly different than the one that won the Commonwealth Motors Christmas Classic a year ago.

They're younger, without their two top scorers and under a first-year head coach. Even worse, they were off to an 0-2 start heading into yesterday's opening round of the tourney.
