Jim Savelyev was denied a goal minutes before on an offsides call, but he pressed on and knocked home the game-winner with 13 minutes to go as No. 14 Georgetown trimmed No. 10 St. Mary’s of Lynn, 2-1.

The Royals advanced to the Division 3 North final for the first time since 1989. On Saturday, they will play No. 4 Hamilton-Wenham, which beat the Royals, 1-0, in the regular season.

Freshman's big day helps Georgetown advance

Georgetown defeated Lowell Catholic in the Division 3 North quarterfinals thanks to an outstanding effort from freshman midfielder Ryan Browner. Browner delivered a pair of goals and an assist as he was one of four players to find the net. Jim Savelyev and Bryant Yavorski each had a goal and an assist in the winning effort. Goalie Evan Weagle finished with seven saves to keep Lowell Catholic off the board.

Lynnfield 4, Georgetown 3

Down 4-1 with 10 minutes to play, Georgetown made a game of it with Lynnfield scoring twice and threatening to score the equaliser when time expired.

Jimmy Savelyez scored twice and assisted on the third, John Bordonaro had a goal, and Ryan Browner also had an assist for the Royals.

Amesbury 5, Georgetown 3

You can put Amesbury (1-3-4) on the board, yes. The Indians, who fell behind to Georgetown, 3-2, in the second were quite resilient in coming from behind to beat the Royals. Dylan Bagshaw was the guy for Amesbury. Despite a hurt ankle, Bagshaw put home a hat trick to lead the way. Jay Wade and Kyle Bell had the other two Indian goals, and Mike Dragonas had an assist.

Royals end in stalemate

Georgetown carried the play but settled for a 0-0 tie with Rockport. Stopper Dean Nemeroff played a superb game and goalie Evan Weagle made seven saves.
