Haley Catania struck out nine batters over seven innings to go with her 3-for-3 performance with four runs scored as Pentucket softball surged past Shawsheen on the road, 8-3. Emily O'Donnell hit two triples and drove in a run while Hannah Burdick drove in three runs on two hits.

Quick turnaround

When Amesbury and Georgetown softball faced off on Wednesday, it was very one-sided, with Amesbury taking the 16-1 win in five innings. When the two teams faced off again less than 24 hours later, the game went much differently. Amesbury still go the win, but Georgetown played strong from the opening pitch to keep it to 3-0. Ultimately the Royals couldn't solve Hayley Catania, who allowed two hits with a walk and had nine strikeouts in the complete-game shutout. With the win, Amesbury (10-5) has now qualified for the state tournament.

Fast start

Amesbury got loads of production from the top of its lineup, with Emma DiPietro going 3 for 5 with three runs and a home run and Hayley Catania going 3 for 4 with four runs as the Indians blasted past Georgetown 16-1 in five innings. Due to a scheduling quirk, the two teams will face off again for a quick rematch on Thursday.

Indians pull away

Pentucket softball was keeping pace for a while, but Amesbury put up four runs in the top of the sixth to finally pull away for the 10-5 win. Hayley Catania struck out 10 while allowing two earned runs, and at the plate she also went 2 for 3 with three runs scored. Emma DiPietro also went 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Pentucket was led by Julie Freitas (1 for 2 with two runs) and Maddy Codair (2 for 4 with a run and an RBI).

Emily O'Donnell pitched a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts in Amesbury's 5-0 win over Rockport, and Hayley Catania hit a two-run home run while going 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Hanniah Burdick also went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI, and Emma DiPietro went 1 for 3 with two runs scored.

O'Donnell strikes out 10

Emily O'Donnell had a huge day on the mound for Amesbury, allowing just one unearned run on six hits over seven innings while striking out 10 in a 10-1 win over Hamilton-Wenham. Hayley Catania went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and a run scored, Emma DiPietro went 1 for 2 and scored three runs, and Julia Campbell also scored three runs in the game.

Hayley Catania dominated a formidable Ipswich lineup on Wednesday, striking out 11 without walking any in a 5-0 complete game shutout win for Amesbury. Emma DiPietro also blasted a home run, and freshman Julia Campbell made a nice sliding grab to end the game in the seventh inning.
