Rangers reign in rain for first win

Under difficult weather conditions, defense made the difference in Methuen's first win of the season, 2-0 over Newburyport. Justin Bonneau, Fred Corey, Jesse Rodenhiser and Colin Trainor played exceptionally well and "kept everything in check," according to head coach Claude Beaudet. Reyny Martinez's goal eight minutes into second half play was the game-winner for the Rangers.

Tewksbury 5, Methuen 1

Excelling in multiple roles, Jake Rogers was impressive in Methuen's 5-1 setback to Tewksbury. Starting at defensive stopper, Rogers moved to midfield and finally to forward where he recorded the Rangers' lone goal of the day.

Chelmsford 1, Methuen 0

A huge defensive effort in front of goaltender Alex Wellspring helped but Methuen still fell to Chelmsford, 1-0. Wellspring had a couple of athletic saves as part of his eight stops and got huge help from defenders Colin Trainor, Jesse Rodenhiser and Fred Corey.

Deadly duo leads Lawrence

Trailing 2-1 at the half, Lawrence received four goals from striker Francisco Cuesta to blow past Methuen 7-3. Three of Cuesta's goals were setup by Jeremias Cruz, and the hat trick happened within a minute spanning the first and second halves.

Rangers fall just short

Despite a forceful second half, Methuen couldn't rebound from a two-goal first-half deficit and fell to Chelmsford, 4-3. Heavy pressure from sophomore forward Kevin Lima and senior defender Fred Corey helped the Rangers (0-2) get close. Peter Fichera (two goals and an assist) led the scoring and sophomore Keith Erickson filled in at goalie, stopping seven Lion shots.
