Kaylyn Michauld and Ashley Ventolieri combined for 30 points as rallied from a 5-point deficit after three quarters to beat Greater Lawrence 45-41.

Despite the best efforts of Ashley Alicea, who came off bench with some big rebounds, good defense and four points, Greater Lawrence dropped a 45-38 decision to Greater Lowell.

Whittiier Tech's girls zoomed to a 17-2 lead and romped to a 56-36 victory over Greater Lawrence to qualify for the tournament with a 10-1 record. Christina Medley led the way with four 3-pointers and 22 points.

Whittier's girls didn't show any ill effects from a snow-induced layoff, jumping out to a quick start against Greater Lawrence Tech and running away for a 71-41 victory.

Junior Chari Rivera pumped in a season-high 18 points to power Greater Lawrence past Lynn Tech, 55-27. Ashley Alicea also had a fine all-around game.

The Greater Lawrence Tech girls got a late steal but couldn't get a buzzer-beater to fall and lost to Chelsea 36-35.

 The popular Jon Spohn Tournament, named for the first Salem High wrestler to reach 100 wins, takes place Sunday, Jan. 9 at Salem High School. The popular youth tourney, for grades K-8, has 350 participants from all over New England and is a qualifier for the Tournament of Champions nationals and the Gene Mills Eastern Nationals. The tourney is a fund raiser and bears a scholarship in the name of Spohn, a terrific student-athlete who went to Columbia University.

Angelice Gonzalez scored 17 points, made 11 steals and recorded eight assists to lead Lawrence to a 63-43 victory over Greater Lawrence. Ashleigh Greer scored 25 points for the Lancers (1-0).
