New Milford/Cumberland Invite (R.I.)

 

Freshman Jacob Post had a breakout tournament Saturday, helping Timberlane win the Cumberland, R.I. tournament, defeating runner-up Fairfield Warde by seven points.

Post came back in the consolation round to finish third, beating the No. 4 and 5 seeds twice each on his way, gaining a pin in the consolation finals.

Owls prevail again

 

For the third straight year, Timberlane won its wrestling showdown against North Andover, this time by a score of 42-21. The Owls won nine weight classes, including three by freshmen.

Junior Ryan Peters won his 100th match with a first-period pin as Timberlane tuned up for today's matchup against North Andover by trouncing Manchester Central 75-6.

Timberlane creowned three champions among four finalists but still finished fifth at the rugged Sanford (Maine) Tournament, the lowest finish for the Owls in a New England Tournament in recent memory.

Londonderry in second

 

Londonderry, with five quarterfinalists, stands in second place after the first day of the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament.

Defending champion Mt. Anthony, with eight quarterfinalists, leads with 124 points, followed by the Lancers at 108 with Springfield Central third at 101. Timberlane, with four quarterfinalists, is sixth with 88 points.

Owls finally fall

 

It was a memorable day, but not a completely satisfying one for Timberlane head coach Barry Chooljian.

With wins over Phillips Exeter and Framingham, Chooljian won his 500th match at Timberlane, but the Owls then dropped a 38-33 decision to St. John's Prep for their first loss in two years after going 25-0 last year.

Owls on track

 

Timberlane's wrestling team, which went undefeated last year, opened its season with a 45-21 victory over Alvirne. Freshmen Rob Pinault (113) and heavyweight Noah Beauleau had pins in their varsity debut and Brian Lonergan had an imopressive 3-1 decision over defending Division 2 state champ Evan Manning.
