PELHAM — Windham is bucking the trend, and doing it quite nicely.

While most softball teams prefer to settle on an ace to handle all the pitching chores, the Jaguars are splitting the duties among three pitchers and enjoying the results.

Yesterday it was sophomore Jaime Cleasby's turn and she responded beautifully. In the wake of Windham's lone setback of the year, an 8-1 loss to Sanborn Thursday, Cleasby threw a nifty two-hitter as Windham ripped Pelham with surprising ease, 13-1.

Cleasby struck out 10 over six innings and had Pelham off balance throughout the game, allowing just a solo run in the sixth.

"That was Jaime's best game this year and reminded me of her performance against Con-Val last year," said Windham coach Dave Hedge. "She's probably the fastest of our pitchers and she was really sharp today."

But Hedge plans on continuing to alternate pitchers with senior Rachel Vafidesand sophomore Rachel Rogers continuing to get turns.

"All three pitchers have done well and I'll keep using them all," said Hedge. "That'll change later depending on who is hot."

The way Windham was hitting the ball yesterday, it might not matter who is on the mound. The Jaguars had 10 hits, took advantage of six Pelham errors and scored in five of six innings.

Catcher Emily Comtois accounted for five runs with a first-inning two-run double and a three-run hiomer in the fourth and Rogers, who was the DH yesterday, had a bases-loaded double and four RBIs on the day and Christina Steere chipped in with two hits.

"Today was a true test for us, to see how we came back from Thursday's loss and i thought the girls really came to play," said Hedge. "I'm pretty happy with the way we're playing."

Things aren't as rosy for Pelham, however. The Pythons (2-3) lost their second straight and star shortstop Hannah Paitchel has a bad shoulder that has hampered her throwing to the point that she was forced to just play designated hitter yesterday. WIthout her defense, Pelham made six errors.

Paitchel did have one of Pelham's two hits with standout freshman Sarah Ratcliffe getting the other. Ratcliffe had Pelham's only RBI as well.
