Newburyport vs. Amesbury without a doubt. If you dont think that take a look in the past few years. An all out brawl in hockey two years ago and the golf ball incident with some retards from amesbury. This rivalry is the most competitive around

I agree that the Georgetown Royals vs. the Manchester Essex Hornets will be the best game. Don't miss it..

Ya neither of those games are the best, not even close. In case you haven't noticed no one, let me repeat no one cares at all about either of those games, you guys are all lower division teams who no one cares about. The best is probably Xaverian vs. St. Johns because that is a game that has actually mattered in the past, none of this division 3 and 4 crap.

just because the teams are in D3 or D4 doesn't take anything away from the rivalry. If anything the small town atmosphere where everyone knows everyone else makes the rivalry better and more personal. Georgetown vs. Manchester is without a doubt one of the best rivalries in the area. Not to mention this years game will be one of the best in recent history as it will decide the CAC champ and determine who goes to the playoffs.

It absolutely takes away from a rivaly, I'm assuming you are from Georgetown, please tell me, how many people do you know from Manchester, because it doesn't matter if you know people in Georgetown, you should, it's the other team. There are much better stories and rivalries behind the bigger division teams where certain teams have dominated, such as Brockton and Everett.

most of the kids on both teams know each other very well because we play them in not only football but other sports throughout the year. I'm not taking anything away from the bigger school rivalries because there are some great rivalries in the bigger schools. All I'm saying is that just becuase a rivalry is between small towns doesn't mean its not a good rivalry. And just because not as many people follow the stories behind small school rivialries doesn't mean there aren't good stories at that level. These games and the teams mean a lot to the people in town.

They may mean a lot to the people in the town. However the question here is what is the best rivalry around. And the best rivalry is not a D3 or D4 rivalry, yes they can be great for the teams that play, but keep in mind just about all teams play each other in all sports. The best rivalries are the ones that have great teams yearly and teams that have great players on a regular basis, so therefor the best rivalries are going to be more on the higher levels such as St. Johns vs. Xaverian and Andover vs. Central Catholic.

This is a complete joke. Without a doubt its Beverly-Salem. The History, Traditions. The Passion. It is, THE rivalry. Not "the best"

The Beverly-Salem rivalry has been aruond since 1891. The numerous classic games that have been played in this thing, is incredible. These two teams for most of the previous century were THE powers of North Shore Football, and they happen to be right to each other. And did I mention the thousands and thousands that are at this game, and on top of that, the historic cathedrals the witches and panthers play at? And not to mention, the genuine dislike between the two sides for all these years, before the rivalry has lost some of its toughness in recent years. To me, it is not even close. Beverly and Salem, is not jus tthe best rivalry, it is THE rivalry.

the rivalry does not come down to what division you are in. So what your in a bigger town get over yourself. Rivalry is all about how the game is played and on turkey day every team has a rivalry. It comes down to the passion on and off the field it does not come down to the division. seriously what are you stupid. If you think it comes down to division and the rivalry is weaker the lower the division gets than you are not a true football player and im sure you are not.

Large, small; ONLY relates to POPULATION. Both Amesbury and Newburyport have each had a football player go PRO. Anyway, this will be the FIRST time that these rivals will be going for the league title. Definitely exciting

oh, and, Amesbury vs Nbpt has a 92 year history of rivalry. Divisions have changed for both over the years as the towns have either grown and/or been outgrown by other towns. Divisions relate to a town's/school's population guys.

ok wheels1390! divisions have nothing 2 do wit rivalries!! divisions just seperate schools based upon their size, Georgetown isnt that big so yeah their in a smaller division. But St. Johns and Brocktons rivalry, yes very good, but this year is a different story, its Georgetown vs. Manchester!!! WINNER TAKES ALL!

You morons still don't get the point, the better rivalries are the ones that have more fans plus a history. In bigger divisions there are many more people in the towns and schools and the rivalries do have a great history. As for Salem and Beverly being the best teams, no Brockton has been a major power for quite some time.

hey wheels; seems to me you need some anger management attention; there is NO rivalry, this year, with stakes like Amesbury vs Newburyport. NEVER, IN 92 YEARS, has the Thanksgiving game yielded a league title; and this Thursday WILL. Not to mention the hot hatred between the 2 towns. Don't think you'll find that anywhere else this season. THAT'S rivalry. Oh, and by the way, the game was officially SOLD OUT this past Saturday.

I think it is ridiculous to say lower division rivalries don't matter. If that was the case what would be the point of playing? Just because schools like St Johns or Everett are bigger programs with more money and larger populations doesn't mean their games are any more meaningful than smaller teams. St. Johns has nothing to play for other than the rivalry, Georgetown-Manchester is playing for a league title. I don't understand any of your argument Wheels and I don't see why you are campaigning for bigger schools. For someone who is a fan of Masco I would expect less sucking up to bigger programs. If you hate the other team and you want nothing more than a victory on Thanksgiving, then its a rivalry. You are in no position to decide what rivalries don't matter.

Drum Roll Please !! Georgetown Vs Manchester Essex and Newburyport Vs Amesbury are for playoff berths (Best of Luck to all 4 schools) .Most of the other games mentioned are for a trip to the toilet Bowl .I think Gr.LawrenceVs Lawrence the only inner town game in the region is the best rivalry .Records aside, there's always some wicked hitting ,and this year shouldn't be different.Bragging rights in the city of lawrence is huge to these kids ,and I expect a great game. (As to the comments on the sizes of the schools) One shouldn't measure the enrollment or division that the teams play in, but by dedication to the team concept,Respect and HEART.That's what wins games. To Nadgee, and all the boys from Georgetown- you have made doubters all year long pay the price on the field- don't stop now-ReggiesFan87 !!!! Happy Thanksgiving !!! P.S. To the Sarkis' Family ,coaches and all the leaders that make up this special group-2007 Gr.Lawrence Football Reggies Best of Luck !!!!!!!! Big Joe

K im not fom Beverly nor Salem but so i definitely dont have a biased but clearly that is the best rilvalry. Without a doubt, its the most excitind, oldest and most talked about. And as far as G-town and Machester Essex goes, that is probably the biggest joke of anything ever. First of all, either team is going to get dominated in the playoffs. Just like last year when Manchester thought they were good (cuz they were, IN THEIR DIVISION) and then they got Smoked by Ipswich 34-0 with like 60 yards of offense. And Georgetown is also going to get killed in D3A next year because they really just are not good. So in no way can that ever be a good rilvalry. So ya definitely Beverly v. Salem and the divisions dont really matter cuz its more history than anything else.

The Masco game is for a playoff birth as well so your wrong about those being the only games with a playoff birth at stake. Again those rivalries are good for the towns, thats it, if both teams suck then I don't care what you say, it's not a good rivalry, and I know what you will say, a playoff birth, for D3A!, which sucks, Masco, who is only 2A easily handled Amesbury and would do the same to Newburyport. I'm not sucking up to the D1 schools, I just actually know what I'm talking about. Brockton vs. Leominster is a classic rivalry, ever heard of that one?

Definately, without a doubt, MASCONONET VS. NORTH ANDOVER is the biggest rivalry in the state. its pretty much hatred between the 2 schools. Every year, it comes down to these 2 teams playing for a playoff spot. there might be some rivalries that are good, but none compare to this one.

BY FAR the biggest rivalry is Bev Salem, the trash talk, the underlying stories....and the hate was so bad, they have to hold some stupid meeting with the captains just so their wont be madness on the field. easily bev salem, nothing compares

North Andover vs Masco IS the biggest and best rivalry in the state as alexsd37 said. When it comes down to two teams that have such a hate for one another your more than likely going to have a great game which is what happens almost every year in recent history. Is the talent as good as d1 and 2 teams obviously not but were not talking about talent were talking about rivalries and North Andover vs Masco is the biggest one i believe

Beverly-Salem. If we were talking hockey, it'd be Gloucester- Danvers. Newburyport- Amesbury is close, but not quite "up to par" in my opinion. SJP-Xaverian has not been around long enough and Central Catholic- Andover just doesn't have it for me either. Beverly vs. Salem has the long history, the fans, the excitement and everything it needs.

screw thanksgiving rivalries...they're as fake as half the football players out there...Pentucket vs. Wilmington Football games are brutal...look at some of the scores in the past few years.... '08 season and '05 season...I've seen and played in some true football battles...we're talking real emotions involved in this rivalry in the last ten years
