BYFIELD – In a Division 4 North semifinal matchup between a pair of veteran contenders, the experience for Danvers proved to be a bit more of the big-game variety.

HAVERHILL – While losing any championship tilt is disappointing, the State Vocational title isn’t the ultimate prize Whittier has been building toward the past three years.

The Wildcats scored 28 of the 32 points the teams combined for in the first period en route to a 60-50 victory over Bay Path Regional in the State Vocational semifinals. Andrew Wells and Nate Frongillo scored 14 and 13, respectively, as Whittier starters watched the second half from the bench. The Wildcats play host to Greater New Bedford in today's noon championship.

Whittier's boys captured the Brad Sheridan tournament at Marblehead with an easy 55-34 win over St. Mary's. Justin Reyes led a balanced attack for the Wildcats (18-2) with 18 points.

Justin Reyes dropped in 29 points and 10 rebounds as Whittier stretched its winning streak to nine games by beating Greater Lowell, 70-53.

Using just six players, Whittier not only beat Minuteman to move to 14-2 on the season but it scored its most points in a game in three seasons, winning 91-64. It was the Wildcats' highest point total since Jan. 28, 2010 when they beat Greater Lawrence, 92-81. Justin Reyes went off for 41 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Ryan Grant added 21 points and 11 assists.

Monster contributions from Ryan Grant (22 points and 12 rebounds) and Justin Reyes (27 points and 14 boards) kept Whittier rolling, earning the Wildcats a tourney berth and snapping St. Mary's five-game winning streak with a 61-48 victory.

Justin Reyes netted 20 points and added 16 rebounds to lead Whittier boys basketball 61-45 over Greater Lawrence.

Ryan Grant also had a double-double, scoring 10 and grabbing 10 rebounds. 

Chelsea scored a layup with 6.7 seconds remaining to win 49-48 over Whittier boys basketball. 

Wildcats senior guard Ryan Grant missed a shot in the final seconds. Nate Frongillo collected the rebound but missed on his putback.
