Once Whittier's girls got out of foul trouble, it had no trouble with Shawsheen last night.

With its frontcourt on the bench, Whittier trailed 27-26. When they were on the court, aided by some strong pressure defense, the Wildcats surged past the Rams for a 58-39 victory.

Kayla Riley came off the bench to score 17 points to pace Whittier to a 64-49 victory over Newton South in the consolation finals of the IAABo tournament at St. John's Prep.

Back from a foot injury that held her out for two weeks, Kayla Riley returned to score 17 points to lead Whittier to a 61-56 win over Shawsheen. Dominique Ortiz added 12 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Michaela Martin (25 points, 5 3-pointers) and Samnell Vonleh (23 points) powered Whittier girls to a 74-54 victory over Mystic Valley. 

Whittier Tech's girls had their biggest win of the year, 73-52 over Division 1 North Andover. Andrea Terranova had a season-high 21 points and Michaela Martin matched her with 21 points.

Michaela Martin scored 17 points and Andrea Terranova netted 16 for Whittier, which locked up its third straight Commonwealth Conference Large title with a 65-52 win over Greater Lowell.

With Whittier trailing by four points with 1:10 remaining, Michaela Martin knocked down a 3-pointer, Samnell Vonleh delivered a key block and Kayla Riley, Andrea Terranova and Martin hit key free throws to give the Wildcats a 57-51 win over CAL rival Newburyport.

Kayla Riley (15), Michaela Martin (13) and Andrea Terranova (12) combined for 40 points and Whittier edged Shawsheen 55-50.
