Methuen qualifies

 

SOMERVILLE — There were some big numbers put up by the Methuen softball team Monday, but none more so than by senior catcher Kat LeFebre.

In the Rangers' 20-4 romp over Somerville, LeFebre not only was 3 for 3 with four runs scored but had a grand slam homer for four RBIs, giving her 102 RBIs for her career. She passed 100 hits for her career several weeks ago.

Mazzone is everywhere

Nyah Mazzone accounted for all three of Methuen's runs, driving in one and scoring another in the third and scoring the eventual winner in the fifth on an error as the Rangers beat Chelmsford 3-2.

Sophomore Kelsie McGonagle was 4 for 5 and had a key RBI in the eighth inning as Methuen pulled out a huge 9-6 win at Tewksbury. Kat LeFebre was 3 for 5 and scored three runs and Coralie Mathieu was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Michaela Kane and Maddie Boucher each had RBI singles in the sixth inning to propel Haverhill to a 2-0 win over Methuen, the Hillies' first win over the Rangers in at least their last 24 meetings dating back to 2000, which is as far back as the Eagle-Tribune's game-by-game records go.

  • Methuen freshman Nyah Mazzone and sophomores Lynette Urena and Kelsie McGonagle all had three hits as the Rangers blasted Malden 14-0. Urena had a home run and five RBIs and both Mazzone and McGonagle has three RBIs. Mazzone also scored three times.
