Jake Hebert hit a contested layup with two seconds left as No. 5 Merrimack Valley won a 52-51 thriller over No. 12 Windham in opening round action. Riley Desmarais and Drew Kelley had 12 points each for Windham.

Windham co-captain Eric Thibodeau tore his Achilles in the first quarter of the Jags' season opener, ending his season. But he came back Thursday in a very limited role. He started the game against West and the visitors left him open so he could swish a long jump shot then return to the bench. Windham returned the favor and West scored at the other end. 

Sophomore Matthew Logue scored a career-high 17 points and Windham whipped Timberlane, 65-34. The Jags outscored the Owls 19-3 in the fourth. 

Riley Desmarais drained a 3-pointer with 11.3 seconds left to give Windham a 49-48 lead and the Jaguars went on to beat Hanover, 50-48. Desmarais led WHS with 13 points. Senior manager Scott DaSilva got his first varsity action with the start for Windham.

Pinkerton bowling finished second with a 1,453 and Sanborn was third with a 1,511 at a four-team meet. The Astros were paced by Dan Kirichok, Bryant Nourse, and Elijah Johnson.  

Pelham cut a 15-point four-quarter deficit to just two, but Windham's Riley Desmarais knocked down three key free throws in the final seconds to help clinch a 49-47 Jaguars victory.

Windham hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer but it was too little, too late as Timberlane pulled out the 46-45 win. Connor Schott hit six straight free throws in the fourth for the Owls. Bob Horgan had 8 points, 9 rebs and 4 assists and Matt Perry starred defensively.

Drew Brown had 13 first quarter points to get Pelham off to a fast start. He finished with a game-high 28 points on four 3's. Sophomore Derek Crowley had a career-high 20 points, and Dylan Andrews had 9 points and 11 rebounds.
