The North Reading softball team fell victim to a first round upset yesterday as Gloucester pulled out a 3-1 win in eight innings. Taylor Connor scored the lone run for the Hornets in the first inning.

 Julia Perrone struck out eight in a five-inning, one-hitter as North Reading beat Triton 15-1 to earn a share of the CAL Kinney title. She also drove in four runs.

Kendra Butner picked up the win and had two RBIs and Carly Swartz was 1 for 2 with a run scored as North Reading improved to 14-4 with a 3-1 win in eight innings over a strong Medford club.

Sachem rally

 

Pentucket's softball team scored five runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to rally past North Reading 5-4. Nicolette Kent and Kassidy Kennefick both had two-run hits as the Sachems (10-6) moved into a tie with North Reading in the CAL Large with a 7-3 record. Cassidy Gaeta was 3 for 4 for the Hornets (9-4).

North Reading continued to play well under new coach Michelle Morales, defeating Central Catholic 3-2 to improve to 4-1.Sophomore Julia Perrone threw a four-hitter for the win and had an RBI while Cassidy Gaeta was 2 for 3 and had the game-winning RBI.
