Phillips breaks 4 NE records

The Phillips boys swim team had quite the day in a tri-meet sweep over Loomis and Hopkins, breaking four New England records. Max Hunger set new marks in the 200 freestyle (1:52.90) and the 500 freestyle (4:01.61), Sam Donchi is the new record holder in the 100 backstroke (57.67) and Arnold Su now owns the 100 breaststroke (1:03.91).

Locals chip in

Andover's Maddy Silveira and Karoline Conte both scored to help lift the Phillips girls soccer team to a 3-1 win over Loomis. Goalie Emily Hardy made a diving stop late in the second half to keep it a one-goal game at the time.

BCA takes title

Bradford Christian Academy's Casey Hunt hit two free throws with four seconds left in regulation, completing a 16-point comeback to send the game to overtime, The Sentinels then dominated the extra session 11-3 to win the NEPSAC Class C championship 69-61 over Loomis Chaffee. 

Piath Gabriel led the way with 21 points, while Hunt added 14 and Rachel Romich scored 14 for BCA (24-7).

Lupoli has DeOssie-esque opener for Phillips

WINDSOR, Conn — Phillips coach Leon Modeste may not remember the year, but he remembers the game.

He certainly remembers the player.

That player was Phillips great Zak DeOssie of North Andover, who is currently in his 13th year with the New York Giants. In the opening game of DeOssie's final year at Phillips, he had four TDs and a pick-6 against Loomis Chaffee.

PA nets must-win

 

The Phillips Academy girls hockey team (13-7-1) kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3-1 win over No. 1 seed Loomis Chaffee. The Welch twins, Elizabeth and Charlotte, both scored for the Big Blue, who need a win against Phillips Exeter Saturday to enhance their tourney chances.

Cohen, Phillips smother Loomis

ANDOVER — After a stout performance last week the Phillips defence was just as impressive on Saturday, holding Loomis Chaffe scoreless in the first half en route to a 27-14 win.

Adam Cohen was the leader for Phillips (2-0) defensively with eight tackles and a sack. North Reading's Bobby O'Donnell chipped in with seven tackles, a fumble recovery and a sack.

Former Phillips three-sport star Julia Wadland of Andover, now coaching Loomis Chaffee, came back to beat her alma mater 12-6. Wadland (PA '06) was a 12-time letter recipient at Phillips.

Phillips stymied by Loomis Chaffee

WINDSOR, Ct. — Phillips found themselves only down three midway through the fourth quarter, but a Loomis Chaffe 3-yard touchdown run by Andre Beckett sealed the 20-10 win for Loomis.

Phillips (0-1) got a good game from quarterback Stephen Hedburg, who threw for 215 yards on 16-of-30 passing and also rushed for a touchdown. Pinkerton transfer running back T.J. Urbanik had 51 all-purpose yards, catching four passes for 49 yards. Austin Meyers had a good day receiving for Phillips, racking up 115 yards on eight receptions.

Phillips' Jones accounts for 7 TDs

ANDOVER - Robert Jones had a brilliant debut as Phillips opened the season with a 49-35 win over Loomis Chaffee.

Jones, a post-grad out of Wayland (Mass.) High, carried 11 times for 125 yards and three scores and complete 13 of 16 passes for 252 yards and four scores.
