Kelly Burke tallied her third hat trick of the season, and assisted on the final goal, as No. 11 Georgetown exploded for three goals in the second half to down No. 6 Winchester 4-1 in the Division 2 North first round.

The Georgetown Royals (9-8-2) snapped out of their winless funk by beating the home-advantaged North Reading Hornets (0-13-5) in their last regular season contest yesterday, 3-0. The Royals scored all of their goals in the second half yesterday - all after the 10 minute mark. Kate Grosslein, Sara Gaeta, and Kim Nowers scored the goals, Tracy Sinkowicz had an assist, and Karen O'Hare made five saves for the Royals.

It was one of those days where the Hornets (12-1-3) couldn't find the back of the net despite 16 corners. Senior inner Jen Bishop scored just 51 seconds into the game with an assist from junior left wing Amelia Burke. Senior center halfback Meredith Crofton was another standout for Manchester Essex, who also had two goals called back.

Port one win away from states

The Newburyport Clippers (7-2-3) edged out the Georgetown Royals (7-6-0) at home yesterday, 1-0. With the win, the Clippers are now one win away from reaching the state tourney. The game-winner was scored with 1:26 left in the second half by Cassandra Davis. Callie Hefferan notched the assist, and Haley Morris made nine saves for Port. The Clippers out-shot the Royals 15-11, but Georgetown had eight penalty corners to Newburyport's six.

Hannah Birnie, Kristen Pingree and Kelly Burke all scored to lead Georgetown to a win over River Rival Amesbury, 3-0.

Emily Messellaar and Burke also had assists for the Royals, whose strong play caught the Indians off balance.

The visiting Triton Vikings bowed to the Georgetown Royals 3-1 yesterday. Sarah Nardone made 12 saves for the Vikings and Nicole Lebel notched a goal in the first half of play. Triton had the advantage in pentalty corners, 18-9.
